Item Extremist Ideology Among Young Adults: Impact of Residing in a Rural Setting(2023) Anderson, LauraExtremism has grown worldwide in the last decade. The current study examined whether extremism among young adults was more prevalent in rural settings than urban settings. The study sought to identify significant risk factors to the development of extremism, and examined whether geographical location was one. Method: Participants were obtained through three Facebook groups. Participants were between the ages of 18 and 27. Participants completed a demographics questionnaire and the Activism and Radicalism Intentions Scale. Results: The results of the study did not support the hypothesis that extremism among young adults in rural settings is more prevalent than that of young adults in urban settings. However, there were many limitations to the study that impacted the results. Conclusion: The results of this study show that more research is needed to determine risk factors for the development of extremism among young adults.
