ItemThe Role of Knowledge as a Mediating Factor of Stigma towards Mental Health: The Impact of Knowledge about Mental Illness and Stigma Levels(2022) Gammans, MackenzieThe present study examined the impact of knowledge on stigma levels. Online participants in the United States (N=205) completed a survey containing measures for levels of stigma and mental health literacy. Correlations were conducted, analyzed, and found that as knowledge increased, stigma decreased. Each of the correlations between stigma and knowledge were significant at <.001. Two of the correlations showed a moderate effect and two showed a small effect between the stigma and knowledge. Finding support knowledge can be used as a tool to decrease stigma. Future research should focus on using a more random sample.
