Abstract

Recent events around the nation and the world emphasize the importance of educating students about concepts of inclusivity, fostering appreciation and respect for people of diverse backgrounds. As student bodies at institutions of higher education become increasingly diverse, it is incumbent that we, as educators, foster student engagement and inclusivity by continually refining our efforts to promote diversity (Smith, 2020). Presenters created a revised course offering, Diversity and Inclusivity in Public Safety (CJ346), in June 2020. The course will be included in three new micro-credentials, as well as in Purdue Global’s management and supervision certificate in criminal justice and Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice. The presentation will include discussion of the course units and micro-credentials, research and national science-based initiatives that informed the revisions, insights on teaching the course, and ideas for using technology to enhance students’ accessibility to and learning of the materials.
