Abstract
A faculty senate president will discover issues to bring up in senate meetings by talking with university stakeholders and reviewing university documents and events. How does this preparatory work compare to the writing process taught in college composition courses? One way is that just as an essay needs a focused and convincing thesis, a faculty senate should be guided by a well-crafted mission statement. In pursuing the overall goals described in such a statement, the monthly senate meeting is akin to a body paragraph that supports an essay’s thesis. Other aspects of the writing process as an approach to leadership will be discussed along with the goals of shared governance at Purdue University Global.
