Abstract

Over the last fifteen years Research Computing’s student program has exceeded a twenty percent conversion rate into full time positions (Harrell et al. 2018). This student program strives to provide students with the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge they have learned in the classroom to a real-life setting (Harrell et al. 2019). Students at High Performance Computing gain experience working with the people and technology that enable research such as our community clusters like Bell, named after Clara Bell Sessions (Colby 2020). Research Computing’s Envision Center hires graphic artists, simulation programmers and designers to provide the opportunity to create simulations used for training, education, or research (Theademan). This presentation will discuss our effort to educate future domain scientists and research-focused IT staff about the use of computation and visualization to support research and teaching.
