How to Prepare ECA Degree-Seeking Students for a “Tech Savvy” Early Learning Environment

Abstract

Technology for the early childhood professional is not only happening in the future but it is here today. Research indicates that children are growing up in a digital age and the early learning environment needs to keep up with this technology. According to Highscope (2018), it could be detrimental to young learners if they are not exposed to technology prior to entering kindergarten. This lack of exposure can affect kinder readiness. One of the obstacles for early childhood programs of incorporating technology in the learning environment is the lack of digital literacy of the early childhood professional (Head Start, 2015). This presentation will provide hands-on and practical ways that Purdue Global ECA instructors can help prepare students for careers in tech-savvy early learning environments by increasing their digital literacy and technology skills.
