Abstract

Research shows that quality and frequency of communication can make or break the team performance of a group (Kriek, 2019). Effective communication is truly the cornerstone of an effective leadership style, at the student or professional level. Successful chapter organization officers, mentors, professors, and advisors must be able to convey empathy and consistency in their communication style in order to constructively delegate tasks, set goals, make time for others, recognize achievements of others, and think about solutions, all while working to set up others for success (Green, 2015). The ultimate goal of many outstanding leaders is to see others around them become passionate about a cause and grow as leaders themselves. This presentation, “Supporting and mentoring emerging leaders through effective communication: A student perspective,” will evaluate how to effectively manage a student organization in a global environment, while empowering students to grow as leaders.
